Overview
Hatchman was commissioned on a cost/performance-based tender to provide:
- Total fire protection upgrade and renewal to the entire complex including new fire pumps and 580,000 litre storage tanks
- Total upgrade and renewal of all water services to cell blocks and kitchens
- Upgrade of the existing prison laundry
- Construction of the new visitor centre
- Installation of new advanced technology plumbing fixtures and tapware to each cell block and common areas.
As the prison became progressively live throughout the project, Hatchman was required to present experienced employees who were Police-checked. The team was subject to daily searches and required to work under guard.
Solutions
Hatchman’s solutions addressed the specific circumstances and working conditions:
- Tunnel boring in certain areas to reduce costs and disruption for Borallon.
- Hot works methodology was devised to safely carry out works in the confined roof spaces where temperatures exceeded 45 degrees over summer.
