Overview
Managing Contractor Laing O’Rourke upgraded RAAF Base Amberley to accommodate the C-27J Spartan Battlefield Airlifter – an aircraft that will significantly improve the Royal Australian Air Force’s capability to move people, equipment, and supplies. This reconfiguration project enabled the RAAF base to house, maintain, and operate the aircraft.
Hatchman was commissioned to provide hydraulic services to multiple buildings and infrastructure precincts including a training facility, accommodation building, storage building, hangar, and court house. Hatchman’s scope included fire systems, hot and cold water systems, sewer and stormwater drainage, sanitary fixtures and tapware, sewer treatment plants, water recycling and filter systems.
Solutions
Hatchman’s execution methodology achieved nil disruption to the RAAF base by:
- Live Tapping into the existing water mains to avoid a 24-hour shutdown
- Tunnel boring under the main road to prevent traffic diversions, road repairs, or out-of-hours works
